OBITUARY

Rabbi Ephraim H. Prombaum, age 94

Born in Vienna. Beloved husband of the late Sylvia nee Goldberg. Loving father of Rabbi Saul (Keren) Prombaum. Proud grandfather of Talya (Josh) Gepner, Hillel (Stephanie) Prombaum, Alex (Sarah) Prombaum and Levi Prombaum. Cherished great grandfather of Sylvia and Nosson. Dear brother of the late Anna Prombaum, the late Gisel (the late Joe) Aquilina, and the late Sophie (the late Carl) Shapiro. He came to Chicago in 1954 as a congregational Rabbi serving B'nai Betzalel, Albany Park Hebrew Congregation, KJS, Mt. Sinai and Lawn Manor Beth Jacob. He served as the second Jewish chaplain at the Cook County Jail and chaplain at Michael Reese Hospital. He was Coordinator of Chaplaincy services for the Chicago Board of Rabbis for many years. Rabbi Prombaum was also secretary of the Conservative Bet Din of Chicago. Service is Thursday 2PM at Chicago Jewish Funerals, 8851 Skokie Blvd. (at Niles Center Road), Skokie. From his friend Peggy...
I met Rabbi Prombaum when I was singing songs for residents at Park Plaza. We became friends, and once a week he would treat me to pizza in return for me to sing songs for him. He was always very sweet & nice to me. I am sorry that he passed, and may his memory be for a blessing. We planned on being friends forever.
