OBITUARY

Gail Gassner, née Harinstein.

Beloved wife of Joseph A. Gassner. Loving mother of Eric (Jennifer) Fried. Cherished daughter of Beatrice and the late Joseph Harinstein. Dear sister of Dr. David (Linda) Harinstein. A fighter all her life, Gail beat breast cancer, enrolled at Northwestern (Kellogg) as a single mother while working full time, battled ALS, and, even in her last days, remained committed to her charitable work for the Children’s Research Fund at Children’s Memorial Hospital. Through all of life’s ups and downs Gail kept a positive attitude and was steadfast in her commitment to her family and friends, her desire to help those in need, and her love and support for her son and husband. She loved to exercise, was a whiz at crossword puzzles and word games, and made the most delicious cherry chicken and merengue cookies. She will be truly missed. Service Sunday 2PM at Chicago Jewish Funerals, 8851 Skokie Blvd. (at Niles Center Rd.) Skokie. Interment Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to the Les Turner ALS Foundation, 5550 West Touhy Ave., Suite 302, Skokie, IL 60077, www.lesturnerals.org. Arrangements by Chicago Jewish Funerals - Skokie Chapel, 847.229.8822, www.cjfinfo.com

Rest in peace my dear friend. Though we were miles apart you always were close to me in my heart. I will pray for you always.

As a cousin, neighbor and playmate of Gail's, whose parents were close with mine, although our adult lives didn't coincide, I was always informed about her life journey. Our mothers would chat frequently and I know that Bea and Joe could not have loved Gail more or been prouder of her and David and their families. I wish peace to all who loved and will miss her.
