OBITUARY
Harry Louis Schuman, 90
Beloved husband of Gloria nee Farkas and the late Dawn Schuman nee Rosset. Loving father of Amy (Dr. Larry Stoler) Schuman, Jennifer (Michael) Merdinger and Daniel (Wendy) Schuman. Dear step-father of Dr. Susan (Randolph Alexander) Wexler and Dr. Carey (Dr. David) Sherman. Proud grandfather of Ilana (Joseph) Harrow, Benjamin Schuman-Stoler, Rena Schuman-Stoler, Elizabeth Merdinger, Jaime Merdinger, Sarah Schuman, Joseph Schuman, Noah Alexander, Maja Sherman, Jonathan Sherman and Hannah Sherman. Cherished great grandfather of Lucille Harrow. Dear brother of the late Mitzi (the late Harry) Margulis and the late Eva (the late Sol) Reisman.
As a father and grandfather, HL was chief fish-hook baiter, Shabbat blessing leader, bird house general contractor, and hand decorator of birthday and special occasion letters. HL embodied the compassion and generosity of spirit that made people comment that "he is a true mensch." This was more of a characterization than compliment, first offered by his mother-in-law Esther in a toast at her granddaughter’s wedding. Upon meeting him, all were marked by his kindness and compassion, his passionate opinions, and left with a sense of having experienced something good in the world. Service Friday 10:30AM at Moriah Congregation, 200 Taub Drive, Deerfield, IL 60015. Interment Zion Gardens. Memorials to Moriah Cong, www.moriahcong.org or to the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, 216 West Jackson St., Suite 700, Chicago, IL 60606, www.hiaschicago.org would be appreciated. Arrangements by Chicago Jewish Funerals - Skokie Chapel, 847.229.8822, www.cjfinfo.com
